The products operate with reduced power consumption due to the usage of R290 HyChill Refrigerant Gas R290. As a consequence there is virtually no GWP or Ozone depletion.

Benson has won the prestigious Australian Environmental Choice Award For Gas. One kg of CO2 equals one global warming potential (GWP). R290 in a naturally occurring refrigerant and is one of the environmentally preferred refrigerants. One kg of R290 = only 3 GWP.

Fluorocarbon R410a was once a common use refrigerant but it has 1,890 GWP per kg. R407C was a specified refrigerant only in recent times but its usage has dramatically reduced because of a high GWP of 1,390.

If all R410a units to be imported into Australia were changed over to R290, we could save as much as 1,713,000,000 GWP over the next 10 (ten) years.

HyChill Refrigerant Gas R290 has been selected for Benson products because it is a singular structured refrigerant. This means that if a system looses some gas charge it can be topped up. When R410a loses 7% it needs to be reclaimed and the complete charge replaced.

A significant benefit of utilising the HyChill Refrigerant gas is that Benson systems only require on average 33-35% by weight of original refrigerant.
